John Fleming was a judge in Cumberland County, Virginia and had been in the House of Burgesses for 10+ years. John Fleming worked with John Robinson and Peyton Randolph for sometime. In 1764, he started to work with Patrick Henry, George Johnston and Robert Munford on the Virginia Stamp Act Resolutions. During the John Chiswell scandal on murder, John Fleming was the judge of Cumberland that ordered John Chiswell to be jailed. His son later William Fleming replaced him to help Patrick Henry in 1775.
