Joey "Howard Hughes" Hawthorne (Died before 1997) was a professional poker player from California. Hawthore contributed the section on lowball poker to Doyle Brunson's Super/System, Joey was well known for love of horse racing and drugs. Like Stu Ungar later on, his career was overshadowed by drugs, popular during the 1970s, especially cocaine and heroin. Shortly after he contributed to Doyle Brunson's Super/System, he disappeared from the poker scene. Like Ungar, he also died of a drug overdose in the 1980s while in his forties. He was best known for his flashy clothing and the Rolls Royce he drove. His date of birth and death have never been disclosed and since Super/System, nothing else has been mentioned about him except for Doyle Brunson's short note on his death in Super/System 2.
