Joseph "Joe" Cassidy (born July 30, 1872 in Lanarkshire) was a Scottish football player. His favoured position was as a forward. Cassidy started his career with Motherwell and Blythe. In 1893, he was transferred to Manchester United, where he played just one match, a test match, against Small Heath. After 2 months at United, he moved to Celtic. In 1895, he returned to United. In 7 seasons with United, Cassidy played 167 games and scored 99 goals. He went on to play for Manchester City and Middlesbrough. At the latter club he would be captain for their first game at Ayresome Park, also scoring the first competitive goal at the new ground. He moved to Workington in 1906.
