Jim Hume (born 4 November 1962) is a Scottish Liberal Democrat politician and Member of the Scottish Parliament for the South of Scotland region since 2007. Hume was born in Peebles but raised in Selkirkshire and currently lives on a farm in the Yarrow Valley. His previous jobs include Vice Chair of "Environment and Land Use" for the National Farmers Union of Scotland and was Chairman of Lothians and Borders NFU, with 1300 members. He was active during the Foot and Mouth Crisis throughout his whole term in the NFU. Before becoming an MSP, he was on the board of Scottish Enterprise Borders. He was elected to the Scottish Parliament to represent the South of Scotland region at the 2007 election. He was also elected councillor of the Galashiels and District region of Scottish Borders Council on the same night. He is the first ever Liberal Democrat MSP for the South of Scotland region since the Scottish Parliament was created in 1999.
Trivia
Hume holds an Amateur Radio licence and is active in the area. He runs a Yarrow Echolink Internet Gateway. His wife, Lynne, was the Liberal Democrat candidate for Dumfries in the 2007 Scottish election.
