Jim Gibbons, Jnr (born 26 April 1954) is a former Irish Progressive Democrat politician who served in the Oireachtas as a member of the 21st Seanad Éireann. The son of former Fianna Fáil TD and Cabinet minister Jim Gibbons, Snr, Gibbons stood in the 1997 general election to the 28th Dáil as the Progressive Democrats candidate in Carlow-Kilkenny, constituency previously represented both by his father Jim (from 1957–1982) and by his brother Martin Gibbons (from 1987–1989). Gibbons came in eight place in the five-seater constituency, behind two other unsuccessful candidates: sitting Fianna Fáil TD M. J. Nolan and the Green Party's Mary White. [1] After his defeat in the 1997 general election, Jim Gibbons was nominated to the 21st Seanad by the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern. Gibbons was also unsuccessful in the 1999 local elections, failing to be elected either to Carlow County Council or to Carlow town council.
