Jason Paul McCaslin (b. September 3 1980, Toronto, Ontario), better known as "Cone", is the bass guitarist and backing vocalist of Canadian pop punk band Sum 41. He joined the band as the last member of its current lineup in February 1999, replacing Mark Spicoluk. Sum 41 was signed by Island Records only months after he joined. McCaslin began playing bass when he was 14 as a member of a grunge garage band called Second Opinion with Avril Lavigne's former drummer, Matt Brann, and other neighbors. He was the last musician to join, and because the other band members had already chosen their instruments, he was left with no choice but to play the bass. Before joining Sum 41, he was an usher at a movie theatre. He supposedly acquired the nickname "Cone" from fellow band member Deryck Whibley in high school because he frequently ate ice cream cones at lunch. (However, he is now lactose intolerant, and can no longer eat ice cream.) Despite otherwise being somewhat introverted, Cone is the most frequently visible member of the band to its fans, often speaking to the public and answering questions on the band's official website. Otherwise, he is usually the quietest.
