James Swallow is a British author, journalist and scriptwriter. Author of several original books and tie-in novels, Swallow lives and works in London.[1] His writing includes:
- The Sundowners series of Western fiction steampunk novels (Ghost Town, Underworld, Iron Dragon and Showdown), published by Scholastic Press.
- The Warhammer 40,000 novels Deus Encarmine and Deus Sanguinius (featuring the Blood Angels), Faith and Fire (featuring the Sisters of Battle) and the Flight of the Eisenstein (the fourth book of the Horus Heresy series, published by Black Library). The Blood Angels Omnibus (a collected edition of Deus Encarmine and Deus Sanguinius) and Red Fury, a third Blood Angels novel, are due in 2008.
- Peacemaker, a Doctor Who novel featuring the 10th Doctor and Martha Jones, published by BBC Books.
- The Dark Future novel Jade Dragon, published by Black Flame.
- Relativity, a novel based on the television series Stargate SG-1, published by Fandemonium Books. At the Pegusus 2 convention held in the UK, James Swallow auctioned off the chance to have a "walk on role" in this book. The money was given to charity. He has previously done this with the books Underworld and Whiteout.
- Halcyon, a novel based on the television series Stargate Atlantis, published by Fandemonium Books.
- The 2000AD novels Eclipse, Blood Relative and Whiteout (featuring the characters of Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper).
- The novelisation of The Butterfly Effect.
Other forthcoming fiction includes; Day of the Vipers, the first part of the Star Trek: Terok Nor trilogy; Star Trek Mirror Universe - Shards and Shadows; and Star Trek Myriad Universes - Infinity's Prism. Although uncredited, Swallow is the only British writer to have worked on a Star Trek television series, having created the original stories for "One" and "Memorial", two episodes of the series Star Trek Voyager. He also wrote the script for the videogame Star Trek Invasion and contributed to the anthologies Star Trek Voyager - Distant Shores and Star Trek: The Next Generation - The Sky's the Limit. He wrote the script for the Battlestar Galactica video game, and a number of other game titles, including the Real-Time Strategy game Maelstrom; he was also involved in early work on the forthcoming Killzone 2. He has written audio dramas for Big Finish Productions, Noise Monster and B7 Media; these include the Doctor Who story "Singularity" and the Doctor Who Companion Chronicles audio Old Soldiers ; the plays Dreddline, Jihad and Grud is Dead, featuring characters from the British comicbook 2000AD, including Judge Dredd and Devlin Waugh;The Steppes of Thoth, set in the steampunk world of Space: 1889; and Liberator, an episode of Blake's 7 The Audio Adventures. His short fiction has appeared in INFERNO! magazine, the official Stargate magazine, as well as Silent Night, What Price Victory, the Bernice Summerfield collections Something Changed and Collected Works, and the Doctor Who anthologies Short Trips: Dalek Empire, Short Trips: Destination Prague and Short Trips: Snapshots. Swallow is the author of Dark Eye: The Films of David Fincher, a non-fiction book covering the films and career of director David Fincher, and a contributing writer on Games Writing: Narrative Skills for Videogames. As a journalist, Swallow's work covers science fiction, television, film, videogames, roleplaying games, anime and manga.
