A native of Alexandria, Rapides Parish, Louisiana, Jacob Casson Geiger (18 November 1885 - 07 November 1981) was for many years in San Francisco and Oakland, California, city director of public health and the 1935 president of the San Francisco Medical Society. For his research in public-health medicine (e.g., malaria and botulism), he received numerous awards from the U.S. and foreign governments as well as several honorary academic degrees. Among others he was made Officer of the Legion of Honor (France), Commander of the Order of the Jade (China) and Commander of the Order of Quissam Aloute Cherifien (Morocco). A biography was published by Max S. Marshall entitled Crusader Undaunted: Dr. J. C. Geiger, Private Physician to the Public (New York: The Macmillan Co., 1958).
