Jacob A. Marinsky (1918 – September 1, 2005) was a chemist and writer who was the co-discoverer of the element promethium in 1944. He was born in Buffalo, New York. At the time of his death, he was professor emeritus at University at Buffalo, where he has been professor since 1957. His research has been concerned with nuclear inorganic chemistry, physiochemical studies of ion exchange, and polyelectolyte and electrolyte systems. During the war, he was part of the Manhattan Project. Marinsky received his B.A. degree from the University of Buffalo in 1939 and his Ph.D. in Nuclear and Inorganic Chemistry from MIT in 1949.
