The J.J. Finley faculty, staff, parents, and community are committed to academic excellence for every Finley student. We believe it is the responsibility of the school community to encourage and support a positive, safe learning environment where every child reaches his or her maximum potential. To reach each student's academic potential, the school curriculum needs to focus on instructional strategies which emphasize the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills. Integrating technology into all curriculum areas is also an integral and vital component of the curriculum frameworks

The Many Faces of Finley: The Faculty

There are over thirty faculty members at J.J. Finley. Known for being creative and innovative, Finley faculty keep in contact with parents through classroom newsletters, The Finley Flyer (school-wide newsletter), and our Web page. During the year, the teachers have scheduled days for parent conferences and feedback. Support personnel and other staff at Finley number up to thirty people. Whether serving hot lunches to students or offering support groups through Finley Guidance Services, Finley provides a variety of student support services. J.J. Finley has an after school program which provides a study hall, activities, and supervision for students during the remainder of the day after school until their parents can pick them up in the early evening. J.J. Finley offers programs tailored for all the needs of the student body. The Media Center has one of the highest checkout rates per student for library use in Alachua County. Last year, we had the highest number of books checked out of all the schools in Alachua County. Expanded in 1996, the teachers' production area and increased floor space for bookshelves have been a great boon. The school offers music education, art education, PE skills, gifted education, Exceptional Student Education, Title-I services, speech pathology services, ESOL services, a behavior resource teacher and a curriculum resource teacher.
