"It's a Heartache" is a pop-country song that was recorded by Juice Newton in 1977, and then by Bonnie Tyler and Ronnie Spector (of the Ronettes) later that same year. Tyler had the biggest hit with the song (see chart positions below), though Newton's version went Gold in Mexico. Tyler's version was recorded right after she had surgery for nodule removal. In the middle of healing, she accidentally yelled out in frustration, causing the distinctive rasp in her voice that she is best known for today.

Covers

Since its initial surgence, the song has been covered numerous times, including versions by Dave & Sugar (released the song on their album Tear Time in 1978), Lorrie Morgan (in 1992), Trick Pony (2005). Rod Stewart (2006), and the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra (2007).
