In This Skin is the third album by Americanpop singer Jessica Simpson, released on August 19, 2003. A version of the album with bonus tracks and a DVD was released on March 2, 2004 to build on the success of the album. Eventually, the album was certified 4x Platinum.
In This Skin reached number two on the Billboard 200 album charts and made the Australian album charts in 2004. While the Diane Warren song the "Sweetest Sin" failed to reach the US Top 40, the second single "With You" enjoyed more success going top 20 in the US and Australian singles charts as well as going top 20 in the world adult charts. The third single, a cover of "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin, went top 40 on the US Top 40 Mainstream Charts, appearing as a bonus track on the album version appearing in 2004. A cover version of "Angels" by Robbie Williams also appears as a bonus track on the 2004 release and was the fourth single. It was during the release of this album that Jessica had become a household name, due in part to her reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. At first, In This Skin wasn't doing very well on the charts, as it debuted at #10 and quickly sank to the bottom of the Billboard 200 album charts. However, sales began to steadily increase during the Holiday season in 2003. By that point, Simpson had been receiving huge attention from the media for her antics on Newlyweds, and because of that radio stations warmly welcomed her second single, With You, which eventually brought In This Skin album back into the top 20 on the Billboard Charts. Then Columbia Records decided to re-release In This Skin with several new tracks in order to capatilize on Simpson's new A List status. With "With You" on the top of the radio charts in March of 2004, Simpson released her third single, "Take My Breath Away", as the first single off of the new re-release. The re-release worked as In This Skin jumped to #2 on the Billboard charts, selling over 150,000 copies that week. The album stayed in the top ten for eight inconsecutive weeks and stayed in the top 100 for 61 weeks. It would eventually wind up selling 4 million copies in the United States and 7 million copies worldwide, her highest-selling album to date. In Australia, it went Platinum.
