ICON is the name of at least six annual science fiction conventions. In order of seniority, these are:

  • Icon is held in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area since 1975, usually in late October or early November, under the auspices of the Mindbridge Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation which also sponsors the Gamicon and AnimeIowa conventions.
  • I-CON is held in Stony Brook, New York, every spring, on the campus of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. I-CON (with a hyphen) is short for Island Convention - a reference to its location on Long Island. Attended by over 6,000 people each year since 1981, I-CON is a three day festival, designed to encourage literacy, creativity and interest in science and technology through science fiction and its related genres. Programming at I-CON spans a wide range of topics and interests, including science fiction, fantasy, horror, comic books, Japanese animation, medieval reenactment, science and technology.
  • The ICON Games and Comics Convention has been held annually in South Africa in July since 1994, with over 3000 in attendance. The 2007 ICON will be held in Sandringham, a suburb of Johannesburg.
