Hypatia is a philosophy journal which publishes primarily in feminist philosophy. Since its inception in 1986 as an independent journal, Hypatia has published numerous volumes. The journal's target audience is a blend of "philosophers and women's studies scholars".[1] In 2007, the editor is Hilde Lindemann of Michigan State University.[2] Hypatia has its roots in the Society for Women in Philosophy (SWIP), many of whose members had envisioned a regular publication devoted to feminist philosophy. The journal is named after Hypatia of Alexandria, an ancient Greek philosopher, who taught in the fields of mathematics, astronomy and astrology.
