IMDb profile

Heavy Metal 2000 is the 2000 sequel to the 1981 animated cult film Heavy Metal, based on the fantasy magazine of the same name. The story itself is based on the graphic novel, The Melting Pot, written by Kevin Eastman, Simon Bisley and Eric Talbot. There is a soundtrack with bands such as Coal Chamber, Apartment 26, Billy Idol, Monster Magnet, Pantera, System of a Down, Queens of the Stone Age, Puya, and other prominent heavy metal bands. The film was made by CinéGroupe, a studio based in Montreal, Quebec.

Plot

Upon discovery of a shard of what could be the Loc-Nar (the evil orb/glowing green ball of doom from the original movie), a miner named Tyler (voice of Michael Ironside) becomes possessed by an insatiable hunger for power and a thirst for immortality. On his way to a planet which has a fountain of immortality, Tyler makes a pit stop at a planet designated F.A.K.K.² (Federation-Assigned Ketogenic Killzone) because its inhabitants carry some immortality water in their bodies. Tyler abducts a few people and kills the rest, but misses one: Julie (voiced by B-movie queen Julie Strain who is also Eastman's wife). She is described by Tyler as "a 6-foot bitch with a talking rock", the sole survivor enraged by Tyler's careless rampage. She vows to avenge her family and kill Tyler before he reaches the fountain—unaware that her sister Kerrie (Sonja Ball) is actually still alive. She is aided by a mysterious alien named Odin (Billy Idol) and Zeek (a.k.a. the talking rock).

Game adoption

The film had a sequel, a video game titled Heavy Metal: F.A.K.K.², in which the player assumes the role of Julie as she fights to save Eden from an evil entity called "GITH". The game is set some time after the film and features cameo appearances of several movie characters, for example, Julie's sister Kerrie, the pilot Germaine (now married to Kerrie), and resurrected Tyler.
