Gj is a digraph of the Latin Alphabet that appears as a distinct letter in the Albanian alphabet, 11th in order, as well as in the Norwegian language. In Albanian it is used the represent the Voiced palatal plosive [ɟ], though Gheg speakers mostly pronounce it as /dʒ/. In the Arbëresh variety it represents the sound Voiced velar plosive [ɡʲ]. The sound gj derived mainly from gl (gluha), which turned into gi or g (giuha, guha), as it may be found today in Gheg, and eventually into gj (gjuha) in Tosk and Standard Albanian. In Norwegian, it is found in words like, "gjøre" and "igjen". It is pronounced as the palatal approximant [j].
