Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties (also known as Garfield 2: A Tail of Two Kitties in the UK, Garfield: The Movie 2 or its working title Garfield 2) is a theatrical sequel to the 2004 live-action feature film Garfield: The Movie. This film was directed by Tim Hill, written by Joel Cohen & Alec Sokolow, produced by Davis Entertainment for 20th Century Fox, and was released in U.S. cinemas on June 16, 2006 (July 21, 2006 in UK). It borrows its storyline from Mark Twain's The Prince and the Pauper. This film was rated PG by the MPAA for "some off-color elements."

Plot
Garfield (voiced by Bill Murray) goes to London with canine sidekick Odie to surprise his master, Jon Arbuckle (Breckin Meyer), who is in London to propose to his girlfriend, Dr. Liz Wilson (Jennifer Love Hewitt). Garfield inadvertently switches places with Prince, a royal cat who has just inherited a castle. In the grand estate Garfield now calls home, he receives the royal treatment, including a butler and an international array of four-legged servants and followers. Lord Dargis (Billy Connolly), who is next in line to inherit the estate, wants Prince/Garfield out of the picture. He makes many attempts to get rid of Prince/Garfield, one involving a vicious but dim Rottweiler. Eventually Jon, with the help of Odie, prevents Lord Dargis from trying to kill Prince/Garfield. The castle scenes were shot at Castle Howard in Yorkshire, England and Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills, California

Reception
The critical reaction to Garfield: A Tail Of Two Kitties was extremely poor, getting a very low 11% rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the film grossed over $28,426,747 in the U.S. Box Office. It became a huge success overseas earning $113,011,707 making a total of $141,438,454 worldwide.
Home release
The DVD was released on October 10, 2006. This DVD includes a "Drawing with Jim Davis" featurette and two games: Garfield's Maze, and Odie's Photo Album. It also includes a music video and trailers.

- This film was released in the UK on July 212006 where it is known simply as Garfield 2 [1]
- In Garfield: The Movie, Jon drives a green 2004 Volvo S60 sedan; In Garfield 2, Jon drives a blue 2004 Volvo V50 station wagon.
- The title is a pun on A Tale of Two Cities, a novel by classic English author Charles Dickens.
- In the movie, Jon proposes marriage to Liz, and she accepts. In the comic strip a month after this movie's release, Liz declared that she likes Jon and they began going out.
- Garfield was singing "Cat Scratch Fever" by Ted Nugent.
- The film was nominated for two Golden Raspberry Awards in 2006, one in the category "Worst Prequel or Sequel", and one in the category "Worst Excuse for Family Entertainment".
- During the film Garfield says "For you kids who are counting at home that is eighteen lives." But during the scene where Garfield is in the dungeon, Garfield says that he only has 2 lives remaining. So actually thats only 11 lives (Prince has nine and Garfield has 2).
- During the scene where Lord Dargis is chasing Garfield with a mace, when he goes over the low brick wall his mace disappears.
- When Prince ate all the lasagna, he says the famous Oliver Twist line ("Please sir, can I have some more?")
- Pooky appears to be a squeaky toy in the second movie instead of a teddy bear.
- At the beginning of the movie, Garfield knocks a picture of Liz off the table and it breaks. But when Jon picks Garfield up and brings him into their kitchen, it is back on the table in one piece. This was spotted in the June/July 2007 Nickelodeon Magazine.
- The house exterior in Garfield 2 is different to the house used in the first film, but the interior appears the same.
- Jim Davis makes a cameo in the portraits.
- A white pair of crocs can be seen briefly when Lord Dargis emerges from his private pool in the scene where he leaves the pool because a duck has entered the pool.
- In the scene where Jon comes to save everyone with the crossbow. Garfield responds "Hey, it's Little Jon." referring to Little John from Robin Hood.
