"Garden" is the ninth track off of Pearl Jam's debut album Ten. The song's lyrics were written by lead singer Eddie Vedder while the song's music was written by guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament. The song has been performed sporadically throughout the band's career. Most recently, the song was re-worked for the band's 2006 tour. The re-working consisted of placing the first chorus after the second verse and removing the soft intro, replacing it with the chorus guitar part. A live performance of "Garden" can be found on the Live at the Gorge 05/06 box set. The 'garden of stone' referred to in the song is believed by some to mean a cemetery. With this in mind, the song's lyrics suggest an influence of William Blake's poem "The Garden of Love".
