Fueled by Ramen is an independent record label started by John Janick and Vinnie Fiorello (drummer and lyricist of Less Than Jake) in August of 1996 in Gainesville, Florida.[1] Peter Wentz, the bassist of Fall Out Boy, started his own record label, Decaydance Records, as an imprint of the Fueled by Ramen label in 2005. Since its inception, FBR has released over 90 different albums and has grown from two to over fifteen employees. The label's name is a reference to ramen, particularly of the founders' taste for and accessibility to it at the time of the label's beginning. Fueled by Ramen moved to Tampa, Florida in the latter half of 2004.[1] On December 22, 2006, Vinnie Fiorello announced on his blog that he had left Fueled by Ramen.
| “ | Basically the same reason I started the label is ultimately the same reason why I left Fueled By Ramen, and that is passion for the music. I didn’t feel the same way for some of the bands we had talked about signing in the future or the direction that the label was taking. I always prided myself on the thought of a label being equal parts about creativity and business but months back I felt like music was more about being famous then the actual songs themselves, it felt like style was outweighing substance. At one point I wasn’t feeling the same passion for the direction the label was headed. So faced with staying around and it just being 'business as usual' or trying to steer an iceberg in the way I wanted the direction of the label to go. I decided that it was time for me to step aside and let the label grow with its natural progression. | ” |

Criticisms
The label has been accused lately of a change in ideals and putting "style over substance". This is in part due to the change in the kind of bands signed to the label, and probably has a lot to do with the success of Fall Out Boy and following that, Panic! At The Disco, and the creation of Pete Wentz's imprint Decaydance.
