Franklin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of 2000, the population is 8,448. Its county seat is Meadville6. Franklin County is named after Founding Father Benjamin Franklin.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 567 square miles (1,468 km²), of which, 565 square miles (1,462 km²) of it is land and 2 square miles (6 km²) of it (0.38%) is water.

The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.13. In the county the population was spread out with 27.30% under the age of 18, 8.80% from 18 to 24, 26.10% from 25 to 44, 22.60% from 45 to 64, and 15.20% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 92.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.10 males. The median income for a household in the county was $24,885, and the median income for a family was $31,114. Males had a median income of $26,676 versus $19,567 for females. The per capita income for the county was $13,643. About 20.60% of families and 24.10% of the population were below the poverty line, including 32.10% of those under age 18 and 24.10% of those age 65 or over.
