Francisco Fernández-Ochoa (25 February 19506 November 2006) was a Spanish alpine skier. He was born in Madrid. Throughout his career he won only one World Cup race. However, he won a gold medal in slalom during the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, Japan. He is known as being the only Spaniard ever to win a gold medal at the Winter Olympics. German-born Johann Muehlegg won three gold medals in cross-country skiing, but was stripped of his gold medals for doping offenses. Ochoa's sister Blanca Fernández-Ochoa was the only other Spanish athlete to win a medal at the Winter Olympics; she won the bronze medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville in the slalom. At the World Championships in 1974 Ochoa won a bronze medal in the same event. Fernández-Ochoa died by cancer in Madrid in 2006.
