Sir Francis Nicholson (1753 - 1844) was a British artist.

Early life

Nicholson was born in Yorkshire in 1753.

Career

Nicholson worked in watercolour and oil and is mainly known as a landscape artist. After he moved to London, he became one of the founders of the Society of Painters in Watercolours.

Later life

Nicholson died in 1844 and is buried in Brompton Cemetery, London.

Legacy

His c. 1837 self-portrait is in the National Portrait Gallery.
