Francis I (August 23, 1517June 12 1545) was briefly Duke of Lorraine from 1544 until the following year. He was son of Antoine, Duke of Lorraine and Renée of Bourbon-Montpensier, daughter of Gilbert, Count of Montpensier. He was briefly engaged in mid-1530s to Anne of Cleves, the fourth wife of King Henry VIII of England. He married Christina of Oldenburg, princess of Denmark, daughter of king Christian II of Denmark and Sweden and Isabella of Habsburg, another potential bride of Henry VIII. He and Christina had two children;
