The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is the governing body of football in Singapore. The FAS is responsible for the organisation and development of soccer in Singapore, and for the Singapore national football team. Up until 1994, the FAS also used to enter representative sides in the Malaysia Cup and Malaysian League. It withdrew its team from these competitions after the 1994 season following a dispute with the Football Association of Malaysia over gate receipts, and decided to concentrate its effort on developing the local S.League. The FAS was formed in 1952. Prior to that, the Singapore Amateur Football Association was the governing body for football in Singapore. The Singapore Amateur Football Association was formed in 1892, and lays claim to being the oldest Football Association in Asia.
