Farid Abboud
Farid Abboud is the Lebanese Ambassador to Tunisia. He began his post there in July 2007. Before becoming Ambassador to Tunisia, Farid Abboud was Ambassador to the United States from March 1999 until July 2007. Ambassador Farid Abboud began his diplomatic career in the the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beirut in 1974.

Farid Abboud and the Lebanon 2006 War

Farid Abboud was Ambassador to the U.S. during the 2006 Lebanon War. Comments on CNN on July 12, 2006 were found to be controversial by the Lebanese Government and he was recalled to Beruit. [1]

Farid Abboud’s Embassy Service

Farid Abboud has been a public figure from 1977 to 1990. Prior to Tunisia and Washington Farid Abboud served in the embassies of Moscow, London, and Rome.

Farid Abboud’s Consulate Service

From 1990 to 1995, Farid was the Consul General in Los Angeles. Starting in 1995, he became the assistant director-general of the Department of Political Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was also the Delegate of Lebanon to the Monitoring Group of the April 1996 Understanding in Southern Lebanon. Following his service there, Farid Abboud reappeared at the Los Angeles World Affairs Council to deliver speeches relating to Lebanon in his speech entitled: "Lebanon and the Peace Process: An Update“ [2]

Farid Represents Lebanon at International Conferences

Ambassador Abboud has also served as a member of the Delegation of Lebanon to several international conferences. Among these are the U.N. General Assembly Sessions of 1997, 1998 and 1999, and the Non-Aligned Movement Summit Meetings of 1996 and 1998.

Professor Farid Abboud

Ambassador Abboud was assistant professor of political science at the Univérsité St. Joseph in Beirut from 1973 to 1977.

Education

Ambassador Abboud is holder of a Diploma of Higher Studies in Political Sciences from the University of St. Joseph in Beirut as well as a Ph.D. in history from the University of California Los Angeles. is currently the Lebanese Ambassador to Tunisia. Prior to his current post, Dr. Farid Abboud served as Ambassador of Lebanon to the United States since March 1999. Previously, he taught Political Science at in Beirut, Lebanon.
