Eye of the Tiger is a song performed by the American rock group Survivor, and is taken from the album of the same name. It was released on January 1 1982, and was written at the request of Sylvester Stallone for the film Rocky III. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks from July 24 1982. It was preceded by "Don't You Want Me" by the Human League and followed by "Abracadabra" by the Steve Miller Band. It also topped the Mainstream Rock Tracks. "Eye of the Tiger" also reached number one in the UK, Irish and Australian charts. The song won a Grammy Award, an Academy Award nomination, and was voted "Best New Song" by the People's Choice Awards. During this same time period, the song was Number 1 for eight consecutive weeks in Venezuela, dropped down for a week, and then returned for an additional three weeks in the number one spot.

- The Canadian popular teen drama Degrassi: The Next Generation, which names each episode after an 80s song, named an episode after this song.
- The Philadelphia Eagles use the song on the opening kickoff at home.
- The song became a popular sporting event anthem, especially for boxing, baseball (specifically frequently played during critical points of Detroit Tigers games), and a number of NCAA football teams, especially those with Tigers as a mascot (such as LSU and Auburn). Eye of the Tiger is also played by Drexel University's Pep Band as entrance music for the Drexel Dragon's basketball teams.
- The Danish football team OB (Odense Boldklub) also uses the intro as entrance theme referring to their nickname The Striped.
- In addition to the song's famous appearance in Rocky III, the song inspired the title, and was theme song, for the 1986 Gary Busey film, Eye of the Tiger (film).
- For a short time, it was the entrance theme for professional wrestler Hulk Hogan, who also appeared in Rocky 3.
- It was the first song ever played from an early New York's Z100.
- It has also been used satirically, such as the trailer and ad campaign for the Will Ferrell film Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, released in August 2006. The song is also the entrance song of professional darts champion Raymond Van Barneveld.
- In an episode of Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps (series 5, episode 8, "Fat"), an instrumental version of the song plays as Gaz undergoes an extensive period of masturbation (which he calls "Gazturbation") in order to lose weight.

- Parodied by Survivor themselves in a Starbucks commercial but with Jimi Jamison as the vocalist.[1]
- In 1998 the Croatian group Vatrogasci (Firefighters) made a sexual allusive parody of this song, translating it in croatian language (naming it "Oči mog tigra") combining jazz, funk, turbofolk elements in their arrangement.
- Covered by The Temptations at the 55th annual Academy Awards, when the song was nominated for song of the year.
- Parodied by CKY (featuring Brandon DiCamillo on vocals) in the movie Landspeed: CKY. The song is only available on CKY Vol. 2, which is out of print.
- Parodied by "Weird Al" Yankovic on his second album In 3-D. Entitled "Theme from Rocky XIII (The Rye or the Kaiser)". It was also later released on The Food Album.

- Paul Anka recorded a big-band swing version for his album Rock Swings.

- DJ Clark Kent sampled the song for the remix of Ice Cube's "We Be Clubbin'" featuring DMX.
- Australian Idol 2005 Contestant Lee Harding performed his version of "Eye of the Tiger" on the show and later released it in Punk Rock form.
- In the Game Boy Advance game Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II, a parody called Eyes of the Lion is shown various of times throughout the game.

- The Canadian sitcom The Jon Dore Television Show utilised a sound-alike of the song in the show's very first episode.
