Extended coverage is a term used in the insurance business. All basic insurance policies have exclusions - specific loss causalities that are not covered by the insurance company. An Extended coverage (EC) policy covers these exclusions. Extended coverage is a marketing phrase used to promote additional coverages not included in a basic insurance policy. It is not a legally binding term in the insurance industry. EC does not refer to any specific peril.
