Exodus is an album by Utada, or better known as Utada Hikaru, released in 2004 (see 2004 in music). All songs are written by Utada except "Exodus '04" and "Let Me Give You My Love", which are co-written with Timbaland. "Wonder 'Bout" was remixed by Timbaland. It was released on September 9 2004, in Japan, with a special booklet and housed in a cardboard slipcase. All of the translations into Japanese were done by professionals, except for the song "Animato" which was done by Utada. Utada said that it had a certain feel to it that she wanted to bring across to her Japanese audience. Exodus was released in North America nearly a month after it was released in Japan, on October 5, 2004 and the UK version was released about a year after on September 26, 2005. Although it was released in three different areas, Utada's Exodus album failed to make a mainstream effect in the United States and European Territories. However, the album reached #160 on the US Billboard 200 chart with virtually no promotion. According to HMV Japan [1] and Tower Records Japan [2], Exodus was re-released on September 20, 2006 in Japan, under Universal International, parent company of Island Def Jam. "Devil Inside", "Exodus '04", "You Make Me Want to Be a Man" and "Easy Breezy" debuted on American radio in April 2004, while on Japanese radio in June 2005 and on British radio in May 2006.

Trivia sections are discouraged under Wikipedia guidelines. The article could be improved by integrating relevant items and removing inappropriate ones. |
- Exodus is Utada's only album which is silent on the first track (Opening) for a few seconds, before the music commences.
- It is her second English album to date (the other being under the name Cubic U), and another is being planned.
- Island Records did virtually no advertising to this album, which might explain why it's her lowest selling album.
- Exodus is somewhat more in the "Dance" genre than her previous albums.
- The Chinese and Japanese edition of this album comes with translated lyrics and a slipcase.
- "Opening" and "Crossover Interlude" have the exact same lyrics, but are remixed differently.
- Even though "Opening" has vocals in the song, the lyrics aren't provided in the lyric booklet. The Chinese edition of the album contains lyrics for "Opening" (in Chinese).
- Her "Exodus" album only has two Japanese words for the whole album. They are found in "Easy Breezy." The words are "Konnichiwa" and "Sayounara."
- In her thank you page in the lyric booklet she says "Seikou inotte kurete arigatou (成功祈ってくれてありがとう)," which means "Thank you for praying for my success."
- Her English lyric booklet contains some photos of her in her orange suit seen on the cover of the album.
- The Chinese edition of the lyric booklet says "Not for Sale" and comes with extra photos.
- The album was printed in Taiwan.
- Her tracks are mixed by Goh Hotoda.
