Even If It Kills Me is the third studio album by pop punk band Motion City Soundtrack, released on September 18, 2007.[1] Part of the record is co-produced by the tag team of Adam Schlesinger (of Fountains of Wayne) and Eli Janney (of Girls Against Boys), and part of the record will be produced by Ric Ocasek (of The Cars). Guest vocals on the album include Max Bemis of Say Anything, Rachel Minton of Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer and Shawn Harris of The Matches.[2] The band did their final recording and mixing during early Spring 2007 in New York. The band has been producing webisodes on the making of the album. These webisodes can be viewed at the website http://evenifitkillsme.tv. The first single off the album, "Broken Heart", was released worldwide through all digital outlets on June 26. A video for the single is available to watch at their official website or on their street team website. The second single, "This Is for Real", was released on August 7, 2007 in the US and on September 3 in the UK. The single was released digitally, on CD and on limited edition 7" vinyl, and included three different b-sides: "Not Asking You to Leave", an acoustic version of "Broken Heart" (featuring Korin Louise Cox of The Hard Lessons on vocals), and a cover of the Lifter Puller song "Plymouth Rock". The band shot a video for "This Is for Real" in Southern California in August 2007, which premiered on mtvU.com on September 10. The third single is set to be 'It Had To Be You', set for an early January 2008 release. A low-quality version of the CD was leaked onto file-sharing websites on September 11, 2007, ripped from the web stream available from MTV's The Leak. A high-quality version came out on September 14, 2007. The album debuted at #16 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling about 33,000 albums in its first week.[3]
