Lawrence Ethan Albright (born May 1, 1971 in Greensboro, North Carolina) is an American football offensive tackle who currently plays for the Washington Redskins. He is nicknamed the "Red Snapper" in reference to his red hair and his specialization as a long snapper.

Early years

Albright attended Grimsley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, and was a standout in football, basketball, and baseball.

College

Albright played tight end early in his career for the North Carolina Tar Heels but later switched to offensive tackle and was named First Team All-ACC at that position in 1993. Albright also handled the long snapping duties for the Tar Heels.

Professional career

Ethan Albright began as an undrafted free agent, but later signed with the Miami Dolphins. He has handled long snapping duties for all teams he has played for. In 2001, he signed with the Redskins. On March 3, 2005, he re-signed another contract.[1]

Trivia

  • In the 2007 edition of the Madden NFL game by EA Sports, Albright was rated 53 out of 99, the lowest of all NFL players. This has become an internet phenomenon, after first being pointed out on the ESPN website.[1].
  • In reference to being the lowest-rated player in the game, the sports satire website the Phat Phree has written an article that is a mock-response, addressed to John Madden. [2]
