Engineers India Limited (EIL) is a public-listed company under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and is a business enterprise of the Government of India that was initially set up in 1965 to help the vital petroleum industry in the country. It has to its credit, more than 4,300 assignments, including 320 major projects, that has, so far, been successfully completed. Based in New Delhi, EIL has:
- a branch office atMumbai;
- a zonal office at Kolkata;
- regional offices at Chennai and Vadodara; and
- inspection offices at all major equipment manufacturing locations in India.
It also has overseas offices at London, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Qatar, and Malaysia. EIL also has a large number of se offices in India and abroad. EIL has two wholly owned subsidiaries, EIL Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd in Malaysia, and Certification Engineers International Ltd., to undertake independent certification, and third party inspection assignments.

Scope of activities
Since its establishment, EIL has diversified into the following fields:
- piping (designing and engineering)
- pipelines;
- petrochemicals;
- oil and gas processing;
- offshore structures and platforms;
- fertilizers;
- metallurgy; and
- power.
Presently, it is diversifying further into the following new areas:
- highways and bridges;
- information technology;
- airports;
- mass rapid transport systems;
- ports and terminals;
- non-conventional, and renewable energy sources;
- water projects;
- urban development projects;
- specialist materials; and
- intelligent buildings.
EIL provides a complete range of services that includes conceptualisation, design, engineering, and project construction. Its services extends beyond plant commissioning to include:
- feasibility studies;
- project management;
- planning and scheduling;
- cost engineering;
- process design (chemical engineering);
- procurement;
- construction management;
- commissioning, and plant start-up assistance;
- heat and mass transfer equipment design;
- environmental engineering;
- information technology services;
- energy conservation;
- plant operations & safety;
- advanced control & optimisation;
- maintenance services; and
- feedback on performance.
Lump-sum turnkey projects, from concept to commissioning, is an area in which EIL has entered in a big way. EIL's quality management systems in respect of its services have been assessed and upgraded to ISO 9001:2000 version by the certification agency, Indian Registry of Quality Systems (IRQS). Like all other government companies,it got a rap from various Indian media and public entities for non performance.
Manpower resources
EIL has one of the most diversely skilled engineering work force in this region. It has engineers, technologists and specialists, having graduate and higher qualifications in various disciplines of engineering,technology, business administration, etc. It has about four million man-hours available annually in its design offices, along with about 6,000 man-months of construction management services per annum.
