Jane Austen's novel Emma (1815) was released on British television in 1996 and was directed by Diarmuid Lawrence. The film was released the same year as Miramax's Emma starring Gwyneth Paltrow. The dramatisation was by Andrew Davies. The adaptation was re-aired on Friday, 6 April 2007, as part of ITV's Jane Austen Season.
