Electriclarryland is the seventh studio album by the Butthole Surfers, released in April 1996 (see 1996 in music). The title is a nod to Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix. It may also be an allusion to the professional wrestler Larry Zbyszko, who often used to refer to 'Larryland' in his interviews. The album's original title was going to be Oklahoma!, but fearing lawsuits, Capitol forced the band to change the name. [1] This album brought the Butthole Surfers their first Top 40 hit with "Pepper". The album was certified gold by the RIAA on August 20 1996[2].

Miscellanea

  • When the Butthole Surfers appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman in 1996 to play the song "Pepper" the network censors had a problem with the name of the band. When their name was shown on at the beginning of the show, it was shown as B***H*** Surfers and when David Letterman introduced them he had to call them "B H Surfers"
