Egg is a municipality in the district of Uster in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. It has a population of 7,800 (2003) in an area of 14.5 square kilometres.

Districts

There are three villages in Egg: Hinteregg (population: 1,500), Egg (population: 4,800) and Esslingen (population: 1,500). There are also smaller settlements (called Aussenwacht): Rällikon, Innervollikon, Usservollikon, Niederesslingen, Rohr, Schaubigen, Eichholz, Neuhaus, and Guldenen.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms shows two entwined hands in blue, coming out of silver clouds. It was created at the beginning of the 19th century, influenced by the French Revolution. It symbolizes the motto of the Revolution: Freedom, Equality and Brotherhood.
