Edu Dracena real name Eduardo Luiz Abonízio de Souza (born 18 May 1981 in Dracena) is a Brazilian (of Italian descent) football defender who, as of 2006, plays for Fenerbahçe SK after transferring from Cruzeiro Esporte Clube for €5.7 million. Played his first professional game with Guarani against Matonense, in 1999. He was selected to the Brazilian U-20 Team, in 2001. A year later he was loaned to Olympiakos Piraeus, in 2002. He won the greek championship. After a couple of months turned back to Guarani, in 2002 but the next year was transferred to Cruzeiro. He won the Brazilian Leage and Brazilian Cup with Cruzeiro, in 2003. He was chosen in the Golden team of South America, in 2003. Selected to the Brazilian national team for Confederations Cup, in 2003. In 2004, he won the Mineiro Championship with Cruzeiro. However, he had a surgery due to an injury and was out for 7 months, in 2005. In 2006, he was awarded as the captain of Cruzeiro and won Mineiro Championship with his team. In August of 2006, he was transferred to Fenerbahçe SK On 19 May 2007, he scored Fenerbahçe's 500th goal against Galatasaray. He also has Italian citizenship [1] [2]

International career

He was a member of the Brazil team at the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup and Confederations Cup 2003, although he did not make any appearances in both competitions. He was also a member of Brazil U-23 team that failed to qualify for 2004 Summer Olympics. Recently, he's called to play in the national team in the friendly against USA and Mexico on 9 September and 12 September 2007. He played 45 minutes against USA in his second national match [3] followed by a place in the starting line-up for the match against Mexico.[4] He played 4 times for Brazilian U20 National Team, 2 times for Brazilian U23 National Team and 2 times for Brazilian National Team.
