Edna is an English given name meaning 'delight' in Hebrew. In the anglicized version of the Celtic name Eithne it means 'kernel'. The name 'Edna' is referenced in the Old Testament apocryphal book, Tobit. In the early part of the 20th century Edna was a very popular girls name in the United States but has since become a rare name. It is also a very rare surname.
