Edgar, Allan and Poe are the mascots of the Baltimore Ravens, an NFL football team. They are named after the famous writer and Baltimore, Maryland resident, Edgar Allan Poe. Because the Baltimore Ravens were named after the poem "The Raven" by Baltimore native Edgar Allan Poe, it was natural to name the mascots Edgar, Allan, and Poe. The three not only commemorate the famous Baltimore poet, but also represent three completely different personalities and their stereotypical relation to certain types of NFL players. Edgar was the first to hatch. Edgar is tall and broad shouldered, representing the "back field" or the players of the game routinely not staged on the line of scrimmage. This represents the Line Backer, Defensive Back, Full Back, Quarter Back, etc. Edgar is decidedly proud, if not arrogant, and is the leader of the trio. Allan is particularly shorter and thinner than Edgar and especially Poe, yet much quicker. He represents the Receivers and Running Backs. Allan is a very excitable bird who always has energy to spare. Poe was the last to hatch. Poe is short and stout representing the linemen of the game. He is a slow, lazy, yet lovable mascot. Poe routinely joins tailgate parties in his never ending search for the perfect cheese burger.
