The title of Earl Whitworth of Adbaston was created in the Peerage of the United Kingdom in 1815 (25 November) for Viscount Whitworth, the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. It became extinct upon the death of the 1st Earl in 1825. The Earl also bore the titles of Baron Adbaston (1815), Viscount Whitworth of Adbaston (1813) in the Peerage of the United Kingdom and Baron Whitworth of Newport Pratt (1800) in the Peerage of Ireland.
