Dr. Ox's Experiment is a short novel by the French writer and pioneer of science-fiction, Jules Verne, published in 1872. Titled in French, Une Fantaisie du Docteur Ox, describes an experiment by one Dr. Ox and his apprentice. In an unusually stuffy town in the mountains, Dr. Ox begins to surreptitiously pump a gas (revealed to be oxygen) through a network also connecting the gas lamps resulting in the townspeople becoming more lively and acting younger and younger.
