Portrayed by  Joel Grey

Doc is a fictional character in the cult television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He is played by veteran actor Joel Grey. Doc, while appearing at first glance to be an eccentric old man, is actually a demon with vast knowledge of the dark arts.

Story

When Dawn is looking for a way to bring her mother back to life, Spike takes her to Doc, who has a reputation of knowing about dark magic, specifically resurrection. While disturbed by Doc's demeanor, and the fact that she manages to get a glimpse of his short tail and black eyes, she follows his advice. Later Spike brings Xander to Doc for more information, this time about Glory. On this visit, though, his demonic nature is revealed. In "The Gift", Doc appears on the tower where Dawn is held, and cuts her as part of Glory's ritual, before Buffy was able to push him off the tower with ease. His actual fate was not fully revealed on-screen, though it is implied that the fall was fatal.
