Dick can be used as a pejorative term that refers to an abrasive or inconsiderate person. In this context it can be used interchangeably with "jerk". The variant dickhead can also be used. The term is literal, referring to the individual as a penis, or the bell end. This term comes from the fact that the behavior the person is said to be exhibiting is negative behavior often associated with the male sex.. A variant of "dickhead" used by people who do not wish to or cannot speak in vulgarity is the name "Richard Cranium" playing on the nickname for Richard and using a synonym for head. A dick is however, not offensive in certain cultures. Australian language commonly refers to others in this manner and is not considered very offensive at all.
