Deutscher Entwicklungsdienst (DED) (German Development Service) is a German development organization founded in 1963. It sends professional Germans to work in developing countries on small development projects. It is a non-profit with a 95% controlling stake by the German government and 5% by the "Learning and Helping Overseas". It is federally financed. They currently (2007) have 1,000 workers overseas and have in their history had 15,000. Dr. Jürgen Wilhelm is the current Director General. They currently work in the following areas: Promotion of Economic and employment promotion, Promotion of democracy, Rural development and conservation of resources, Water, Civil conflict management and promotion of peace, and Health.
