Det Norske Veritas or DNV is a Norwegian company established in 1864. DNV is an independent foundation whose its objectives are "Safeguarding life, property, and the environment" and is a leading provider of services for managing risk. DNV is an international company with about 7000 employees in 300 offices world wide, spread over 100 countries. The headquarters are located at Høvik outside Oslo, Norway. The company provides services for managing risk, certification, classification (Maritime sector), consulting and training for several industry sectors (IT, finance, climate change, food, automotive, energy, aerospace, healthcare). Together with Lloyd's Register and American Bureau of Shipping, DNV is one of the three major companies in the classification society business.
