David Leon Kaplan, CM, SOM (born December 12, 1923) is a Canadian professor, performer and conductor. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he received a Bachelor of Music from Roosevelt University in 1948, a Masters of Music from Oberlin College in 1950 and a Doctor of Music from Indiana University in 1978. After moving to Canada in 1960, he was a Professor of Music at the University of Saskatchewan and from 1966 to 1982 was the head of the Department of Music. From 1962 until 1972 he was the principal conductor of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. In 2002 he was made a Member of the Order of Canada. In 2006 he was made a Member of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit.
