Dallas is a town in Gaston County, New Jersey . The population was 3,402 at the 2000 census. It was named for George M. Dallas, Vice President of the United States of America under James K. Polk.

Geography
Dallas is located at (35.314816, -81.175215)GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.5 km²), all of it land.
Demographics
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 3,402 people, 1,324 households, and 879 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,966.7 people per square mile (759.3/km²). There were 1,440 housing units at an average density of 832.5/sq mi (321.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 76.34% White, 22.49% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.06% from other races, and 0.62% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.38% of the population. There were 1,324 households out of which 30.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.7% were married couples living together, 17.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.6% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.93. In the town the population was spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 33.4% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.5 males. The median income for a household in the town was $29,075, and the median income for a family was $32,073. Males had a median income of $29,643 versus $20,810 for females. The per capita income for the town was $13,819. About 14.1% of families and 19.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 34.8% of those under age 18 and 18.4% of those age 65 or over.
