Courtney Louise Mitchell was a fictional character in the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. She was originally played by twins Carissa and Josephine O'Meara, but was played by Megan Jossa when the character returned in March 2006.

Biography

Courtney is the daughter of Grant and Tiffany Mitchell. Courtney was born early by caesarean section. It was not known at her birth whether Grant or Tony Hills was her father, however a paternity test showed that it was Grant. Grant and Tiffany had a troubled marriage; Grant hit Tiffany and both had affairs, Grant even had an affair with Tiffany's mother. They split up numerous times over the years and Tiffany was about to leave Walford with Beppe di Marco on New Year's Eve 1998, but was run over by Frank Butcher, killing her and leaving Courtney with Grant. Grant and Courtney left to live in Rio de Janeiro, and Courtney lived with her dad and stepmother Carla, before returning to London on 27 March 2006 with Grant, but not Carla, as there were problems in Grant and Carla's marriage. She now lives in The Queen Vic with Grant, her uncle Phil, cousin Ben, and grandmother Peggy. Courtney is proving to be very mischievous. She stuck her tongue out at Billy, often refuses to do as she told, answers back and continually bullies and initiates arguments with Ben. After returning to the square Courtney had a recurring bad dream. In her dream her dad was fighting with a dark haired lady. Ben told Courtney that he had overheard Kathy tell her husband Gavin that everyone knew Grant had killed Tiffany. Later that day Courtney confronted Grant about what had really happened on the night of her mother's death. He told her that it was all an accident, but Courtney did not believe him and turned her back on him, leaving Grant devastated. Shortly after this incident, Grant disappeared, leaving Courtney in the care of Peggy and Phil. Courtney missed her dad and blamed herself for his disappearance.

Grant eventually returned and, just a day later, was shocked to see Carla in the Vic. Courtney's obvious disliking of Carla was proved when Carla gave her a kiss, and Courtney blurted out that Grant and her were moving out if Carla lived here and that they were never going back to Rio. She became very upset when she found her dad and Carla in bed together the next morning. Grant has spoken to Courtney and told her to try to get along with Carla, but Courtney still found it difficult to get along with her. After Courtney intentionally flicked paint onto Carla's skirt, Peggy yelled at her, saying she was a spoilt little brat and she should be nicer to her stepmother. Courtney spoke to Jane Collins about finding things difficult at home, not realising that Jane had slept with her father. After talking to Grant, Courtney promised to try to get on better with Carla. However, on 9 June 2006, Grant dumped Carla after he found out she was planning to run off with another man, with Grant's money. Courtney and Grant then left Walford to live in Portugal. On her return between March and June 2006, Courtney befriended Lucy Beale and her father's girlfriend (although unbeknown to Courtney), Jane Collins.
