Cornelia Caroline Funke (born December 10, 1958, in Dorsten, Northrhine-Westphalia) is a multiple award-winning German author of children's fiction. She is best known for her Inkworld trilogy, with the English translation of the third, Inkdeath, to be released in spring of 2008. The Inkworld books have gained a variety of attention, and are even compared to the Harry Potter and His Dark Materials books. Her books are very popular in her native country of Germany, and many are now translated into English. Her books fit mainly into the fantasy and adventure genres. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California.

Personal Life
Cornelia moved to Los Angeles in May of 2005. On one of the first days at their new Californian home, a man came knocking at Cornelia's door, with a parrot sitting on his arm and two dogs by his side. He said “Hi, I am your neighbor.“ Welcome to California! [1]. Funke now lives there with her two children, Ben and Anna. She is known to have an affinity for animals and owns a black labrador called Luna (whom they call 'Loonie') and a female biting turtle, although her son calls the turtle 'Hercules.'
