A content delivery platform (CDP) is a hosted software service, similar to a content management system (CMS). Hosted means that the software is hosted and provided by a vendor via the internet, like a Software as a Service or Application Service Provider. The main difference between a CMS and a CDP is that a content delivery platform is typically utilized to syndicate content across multiple web mediums like websites, RSS feeds, email newsletters, web applications and mobile phones/PDAs. Alternatively, content delivery platforms can also be utilized to import a variety of syndicated content into one central location and then re-purposed for Web syndication. A content delivery platform acts like a central storage database for Web content. That content is deployed via APIs or web services like or REST to other websites and applications. A CDP is aimed to provide scalability and high availablity. CDP examples? Amazon S3, Akamai Technologies, or Brightcove
