Contemporary Learning Center (CLC) is a secondary school located in Houston, Texas. CLC, which serves grades 7 through 12, is a part of the Houston Independent School District. CLC is located south of Midtown, west of the Third Ward, and north of the Houston Museum District. CLC does not automatically take in students in surrounding neighborhoods; residents near CLC are zoned to Ryan Middle School and Lamar High School. CLC serves students who do not succeed in traditional school environments and need more academic motivation and better attendance records [1]. CLC includes Houston Night High School, Houston ISD's evening high school program.

History

The building that houses CLC was constructed in 1925. The building originally was Johnston Junior High School. When Johnston moved to Meyerland in September 1959, Miller Junior High School opened in Johnston's former location [2]. Miller closed and was replaced by CLC.

Student body

During the 2004-2005 school year, 691 students were enrolled at CLC [3].

No Native Americans were enrolled during that school year. 80% of students qualified for free or reduced lunch.

School uniforms

CLC requires school uniforms [4].
