Comatose is the seventh full-length album released by the Christian rock band Skillet. Released October 3 2006, this album abandons the electronic elements of previous releases for a straight-up hard rock release. The album has a more alternative sound compared to the hard rock sounds of their previous record, Collide. Though, this album still keeps much of the hard rock sounds. It has sold about 200,000 copies as of July 2007, according to The M Collective^[1]. The band announced in October 2007 that they would be re-releasing their album with five acoustic tracks, new album artwork, behind-the-scenes videos, and one new song that was not complete for last year's release, with the song being called "Live Free or Let Me Die". It is to be released on November 20, 2007 on iTunes and at Wal-Mart.com, and in stores on December 26, 2007.[1] Jesus Freak Hideout reported on the release, and gave a quote from a representative who said, "As far as the title of the new track it is "Live Free or Let Me Die." It might be shortened to "Live Free." It was written while John and I were in NY at Atlantic records. The London bombings happened while we were there and John came up with a song idea that he sang to his A&R rep Andy in his office. By the end of the day Andy had a studio and engineer booked and we were recording the song within a week. Unfortunately it was too late to get it on the record by the time it got mastered." Comatose received a Grammy Award nomination December 6, 2007 for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album. The announcement of the winner will be televised during the 50th Annual Grammy Awards show on February 10, 2008.

Singles

Lead single for the Christian radio market was the first song "Rebirthing", while Skillet released "Whispers in the Dark" to secular markets. "Rebirthing" topped the Christian Rock chart for 7 consecutive weeks, before their next single "The Last Night" hit #1 on the chart. "The Older I Get" and "Comatose" were released to the Christian and mainstream rock radio markets respectively in August, 2007. While it has not been announced as an official single, "Looking For Angels" was given a video the same as "Rebirthing", "Whispers", and "The Older I Get".

Trivia

• It is not only the band's shortest album, but it is their only album with no song longer than five minutes in length.
• The band has already made four music videos for this album, more than they have done for any of their other albums. As of June 2007, they have released videos for "Rebirthing", "Whispers in the Dark", "The Older I Get", and "Looking For Angels". The first two of those videos were shot at the same time, and released roughly a month apart, both around the album's release date. "The Older I Get" is made up of footage from the band recording the album, and was released in early 2007. "Looking For Angels" came out in May 2007.
• The band has used different lettering for their name on the cover of all seven of their albums. However, this album's lettering resembles that of the Alien Youth lettering, and would appear to almost be a capitalized version of that lettering.
